Village description

It's a very small village, with less than a thousand inhabitants, but it gives the name to one of the four areas which form Barbagia, and during Middle Age it was the chief-town of the second district of central Barbagia. Many "domus de janas" are in its territory. In a cave under the basaltic bastion of Pitz'e Pranu many objects of the Neolithic were found, while in the surroundings it was found a Nuragic matrix for hatchets. Along the valley of Rio D'Istra there are admirable centuries-old walnut trees, chestnut trees and arbutus. The second-last Sunday of June is dedicated to the festival of cherries, where you can taste the typical sweet called "caschettes".
