Orani

Village description

A big agricultural village, Orani is in a valley dominated by the conic Monte Gonare. During Middle Ages it was the chief-town of the curatoria, and until 16th century it was the summer house of the bishop of Ottana. The town still displays seventeenth and eighteenth-century houses, while in the sixteenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista there's an admirable carved wooden pulpit. In the suburban area there are the ruins of the church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo, just part of the façade and the Gothic-Aragonese bell tower. Remarkable the Museum of the sculptor Costantino Nivola, with an interesting exposition of his works.
