Village description

It's a village of pastoral traditions, sheltered in the mountains and surrounded by chestnut woods. It's well known in Sardinia for the colorful traditional female dress. Anciently it was formed by three quarters, today united: Asuai, Issiria and Ovolaccio. The old centre still preserves some fascinating foreshortenings with traditional stone architecture and wooden balconies. The traditional wood manufacture gave birth to some important pieces of art: a wonderful pulpit of 17th century in the ex parish church of Sant'Antonio Abate, and a crucifix of 16th century in the new parish church. Other works of art, mostly of the 16th century, are kept in other small churches of the village. Desulo is also famous for its flat bread and its ham. Close to the inhabited centre there is the nuraghe Ura 'e Sole, the highest in the island, standing at 1331 meters on the sea level.
