CURRENT ITINERARY

From the summit of Monte di Gonare, from which we can admire the Marreri valleys and the Bitti and Gallura mountains, we descend from the south side of the mountain and enter an oak and live oak forest in the direction of the church of San Francesco.
From this site, it is possible to admire the settlement of Orani, where there the Pisan church of Sant'Andrea can be found.

Break and visit to Orani.

We leave towards the Sa Costa locality along a trail that leads to the church of Santu Paulu.

We then climb up towards the talc mines and enter the Oniferi area, penetrating the thick forest of predominately cork oak. We continue in the direction of Soloai, a promontory that overlooks the village of Oniferi, where there was a nuragic village in the past.
We continue towards the domus de Janas Sas Concas, which can be visited.

19th CENTURY ITINERARY

The greenery...
“Here and there was the semblance of a meadow, sliding out of sight, yellow with buttercups, and wondrous also for the luxuriant of its grass and asphodels and poppies among the grass. Black and white sheep tinkled their bells from the midst of their pasture; and the thrushes seemed to hold the music for a challenge, to which they eagerly respond[...]"

The flowers...
“[T]he flowers were as numerous here as everywhere else in Sardinia. The asphodels tickled our horses’ knees; and besides anemones, mountain crocuses, and cistus, the dainty pink wild peony must be mentioned. This last flourished even better at an altitude of nearly six thousand feet, among the mosses and grass under the highest oaks in the land."

(From Charles Edwardes, Sardinia and the Sardes, London, Richard Bently and son, 1889, p.210, p.199.)

Lunch break at the Contones farm accommodation, situated in a central position as regards to an important archaeological area that consists of a dozen nuraghi in the area of approximately one kilometre (Nuraghe Corodda, Nuraghe Murtas, Nuraghe Ola, Nuraghe ‘e Oraschile, Nuraghe ‘e Istirilo, Nuraghe Tiddatzi, Nuraghe Predosu, Nuraghe ‘e Santu Predu, Nuraghe ‘e Muros de Mancosa, Nuraghe Curtu, Nuraghe S'Enerosu, Nuraghe S’Iscopa, Nuraghe Janna ‘e Ormica, Nuraghe Brodu, Nuraghe ‘e Carbai) and three hypogeum settlements: Sas Concas, Sas concas de Brodu and Sas Concas de Orane.

After lunch we leave towards the Oraschile canal in the Orani area, passing by Punta Mareserra. We follow the old pastoral migration route in the direction of Nurdole. Having passed the old Nuoro-Macomer, we go on to Funtana Sa Menta to water the horses.

We then continue towards Nuraghe Nurdole (situated at 637 m), passing by the Punta Cartoliche. The nuragic village of Nurdole dominates a vast landscape.

After a brief stop and visit of the nuragic site, we continue along the migration route towards the Loghelis locality, following the Gutturu Intremontes, the migration route that connected Nuoro with Goceano. We then reach the Sa Pruna plateau at approximately 700 m above sea level. This is an area rich in vegetation characterised by cork oak and oak trees. This plateau has large rocks which have been carved by wind and water that stand majestic in the landscape.

We reach su Gutturu de su Crapione, another migration route that connects the campagne of Nuoro to that of Orune.

We cross the Godurvio plateau towards the nuraghe and Contonera ‘e Lardine, after having crossed the torrent Funtana and Gasones. We reach the trackman’s house and finally arrive at the Costiolu farm accommodation, which is the last stop of the journey and where we stay overnight.
