 Ippovia Mediterraneo is the name of an Interreg IIIA IT-FR project that involves Corsica, Sardinia and Tuscany. The overall objective is that of avoiding that national borders prevent a balanced development and integration of European territory. The Program responds to the need to enhance the strengths and eliminate the weaknesses of the three specific regions.
The project consists in the set up of a system of pathways that cross a variegated territory, rich in environmental and historical resources, through passages that in ancient times would have been crossed on horse or by foot. The paths are characterized by signals and guide-book guaranteeing an easy approach to the territory and the itineraries are all emotional binding both from a natural as historical point of view.
The horse, which indicates strongly the typicality of these regions, becomes thus an alternative and up to now underestimated way to exploit the potential of an ever more demanding tourist market. Equestrian tourism represents a strong motivation for a holiday choice, offering not only to ride horses but moreover to travel through time and places, benefiting from local traditions and hospitality.
Horse riding centers, associations and all operators in the sector have to renew their market offer, becoming reference points for service provision in the organization of horse riding tours along the Mediterranean Ippovia paths network.
